Olsztyn Tops the Ranking of the Best Cities to Live In!
Olsztyn is the best city to live in Poland. This is according to the latest prestigious ranking by Business Insider. The capital of Warmia and Mazury dethroned last year’s winner – the city of Poznań.
At the beginning of April, Business Insider published a ranking of the best Polish cities to live in. The results surprised many. It turned out that among the sixteen provincial capitals, the capital of Warmia and Mazury topped this year’s list!
The ranking considered six indicators: three related to economic aspects and three to social (non-financial) factors. These were: salaries, housing prices, unemployment, access to doctors, crime rates, and air quality. Olsztyn, which dethroned last year’s winner – the city of Poznań – did not lead in any single category, but its high position in three of them ensured its overall victory.
Olsztyn Wins the Best Cities to Live Ranking
“Olsztyn is the clear number one in our ranking, although it does not win in any of the six categories. However, it ranks in the TOP 3 in three aspects,” explain Business Insider journalists, highlighting the city’s sustainable development.
In the housing affordability category (ratio of prices to salaries), the regional capital was second only to Katowice, while in terms of safety (lowest crime rate), it was surpassed only by Rzeszów. Additionally, Olsztyn’s air quality was ranked third.
Interestingly, aside from these indicators, Olsztyn also boasts good results in terms of unemployment and salaries. The city ranks in the top half of the table, occupying sixth and seventh places, respectively, among the sixteen cities analyzed.
It is also worth noting that the capital of Warmia and Mazury showed an over 15% increase in average gross salary (from January 2023 to January 2024), indicating a dynamic growth in wages and the attractiveness of the labor market. According to a GUS report, the largest salary increases were seen in sectors such as transport, administration, and industry.
